🕵️ Radical Detective
See a word, spot the radical hiding inside its kanji. New radicals are taught free the first time you see them — a few at a time.
How Radical Detective works
木
Kanji are built from smaller repeating shapes called radicals. Learning to spot them helps you read new kanji faster.
氵
Each shape gets a memorable English nickname — like "Water" for 氵. The name describes what the shape looks like, not what it means — "Slide" isn't a translation, it's shorthand for a diagonal stroke that resembles a playground slide.
👁
Many radicals also come with a short "what it looks like" hint, so the nickname actually connects to the shape instead of feeling random.
